From the polar regions to the tropics, Penn State has developed one of the nation’s premier research and education programs in the area of marine science and technology. There are oceanographers and underwater researchers across the university: at the Colleges of Science, Earth and Mineral Sciences, Engineering, Agriculture, Liberal Arts, at Penn State Behrend in Erie, which hosts the Pennsylvania Sea Grant program, and at the Applied Research Laboratory. Ocean-related research at Penn State currently exceeds $73 million per year.
